President’s Presentation Plan E
Welcome to this new web site. Spain is facing a serious economic crisis. An international economic crisis that has developed rapidly. The most serious consequence of this crisis is the loss of jobs, unemployment. One year ago, we reached the lowest unemployment rates in history.
And over the last few months we have experienced a strong employment decrease. I would like citizens to know that the main aim of the Government is fighting unemployment and propitiating employment recovery. Moreover, we want Spanish economy, the eighth largest world economy, to emerge from this crisis stronger.
This is what the Spanish Economy and Employment Stimulation Plan, hence Plan E, is about. This Plan includes measures that have already been implemented, and measures that will be adopted by the Government over the next few months. This plan contemplates support measures to help Small and Medium-sized Enterprises keep up their activity and maintain jobs.
This Plan contemplates strong public investments to improve our streets, our villages, our cities, to strengthen our productive capital in order to create employment. This plan contemplates support measures to help banks and savings banks, to guarantee citizens’ deposits and to help banks grant loans to families and companies. And this plan contemplates reform measures to modernise our economy.
But I would like to stress the fact that over the next few months, we will keep improving our social policies, for the Government has firmly committed to do so. We will keep improving the resources for dependent people, we will keep improving the resources to access housing, we will keep providing families with support and aids, we will guarantee the increase of the lowest pensions and the increase of the Minimum Salary, and we will guarantee unemployment subsidies in the context of social dialogue.
This web site contains all the relevant information concerning these measures and their application to fight the economic crisis. The Government will make its best to overcome this situation, to enhance economic recovery in our country and to resume employment creation. I would like you to cooperate. We will have to make an effort and sacrifice. I would like to thank workers, unions and businessmen for their attitude and willingness to contribute to this, in a responsible way, from social dialogue. I would like to thank citizens for their cooperation.
I trust our country, and I know that we are going to come out from this serious economic crisis stronger. I would like to ask you to cooperate and I to thank you for your attitude.
Thank you very much.
The President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has presented the so-called Plan E, the Spanish Economy and Employment Stimulation Plan. This initiative includes the different measures that form part of the economic policy that will be implemented by the Government of Spain in order to make up for the effects of the crises on families and companies and also to resume growth and employment creation in Spanish economy.
